Beached whale cited for not wearing mask on public beach

HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. - An unfortunate humpback whale saw his week go from bad to worse when he was cited with a $100 fine for not wearing a mask in public. The whale was ticketed by a city policeman only 15 minutes after accidentally washing ashore.

Hermosa Beach instituted the fines for violating mask laws this summer. City officials said the whale was clearly in violation of the statue and at this point “really should know better than to put everyone else at risk.” The city hopes the fine will encourage the whale to wear a mask the next time he tries to use a public beach. If he washes up on shore again without one, the fine rises to $500, the $1000 for the third offense.

Shortly after he was cited, numerous anti-maskers helped the whale back into the water. The whale, like most people intends never to visit the state of California again.
